Becoming A Freight Broker

Not every manufacturer has their own fleet of trucks and drivers, which can sometimes make it difficult to get their products where they need to be. This is why they need brokers to match them up with trucks that have space for an extra load. Becoming a freight broker is not difficult but it is important to follow all of the steps carefully.

In order to become a licensed freight broker, it is necessary to register with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. Initially, brokers should complete the OP-1 application and pay the three hundred dollar registration fee. This process must be completed before they can continue with their application for the license.

Another thing that all new brokers need is an insurance policy for their company. In most cases, it is best to take out a policy for at least ten thousand dollars. It is also possible to post a bond for that amount, but every new broker should discuss their options with an insurance agent and shop for the best policy prior to making a decision.

After they are registered and have obtained insurance, freight brokers are free to complete their application for a broker's license. Along with the completed paperwork, they must also submit proof of their insurance. In about six weeks, most new brokers receive an approved application and are free to do business as freight brokers. However, incomplete paperwork or insufficient insurance could hold up the process.

Although obtaining the license is not difficult, there are many little ins and outs of the freight broker business with which they need to become familiar. Someone who is new to the business may want to consider taking a course that will prepare them for their career change. There are courses available in most cities as well as several convenient online options to make the transition as smooth as possible.

People who get into the business of becoming this type of broker will most likely be successful because there are always companies that will need their services. However, before they can legitimately go into business, they must obtain a license from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. If they fill out all of the paperwork properly and obtain the proper insurance, they should be licensed and ready to get to work in about six weeks. If they still have questions about the business, it may be a good idea to take an introductory course.

If you are looking for a new career, consider becoming a freight broker. This is an interesting and exciting career opportunity that anyone can pursue. For more information on how to become a freight broker, visit FBTS.net today!

Trucking Companies and Freight Rates - What is a True Bargain and Not Just a Cheep Truck Rate?

When looking for a trucking company to ship your goods, when is a bargain a true bargain? Sure, someone can tell you that what you are getting is a bargain, but can you see the bargain? Are you given an actual numerical figure or is this freight quote being thrown at you from about ten different directions?

When it comes to choosing your trucking company, you have to see if it really is a bargain. This means a side-by-side comparison of freight rates to determine if you are getting a good price. But what happens if you find your bargain and the service that you receive is not exactly what you intended it to be? What if your customer who receives the shipment calls you and says the items were damaged and the driver just stood back as everyone struggled getting the shipment out of the truck? This is a phone call you don't want to receive from your customer which may result in the loss of future business and then a complaint will need to be made to the trucking company, who may or may not even care about your relationship or your customer.

What you want is a full service transportation company that respects your shipment, respects your customers, and provides you with the best freight rate for the service that you can get. They also need to be dependable. This means that they are able to get your shipment to its destination on time. Your shipment should be their priority. When they care about your shipment, they care about you and your customers.

So how do you find these trucking company bargains and get great service all at the same time?

One way is to look for a full service transportation company that hears and understands your needs and says, "Okay, we can do this for you." If you are looking for a bargain with great service, they will find what you need for the best price. This may not be the least expensive service, but it is the best value for the quality of service available. It is essential to keep in mind the importance of the overall service. Consistent outstanding service will create longevity between you and your customers. When customers are satisfied, results relate to a good return on investment, so you'll find that the freight quote you have secured is really the best freight rate that you could have received. You should research companies that have more than twenty years of customer contentment.

So it is important to realize that a bargain isn't really a true bargain unless the service is as good as the price. Sure, you can always get a better freight quote, but sometimes you get what you paid for. And if it is a really low rate, beware of using these trucking companies unless you know for a fact that their service is impeccable. That is why it is really important to look to a full service transportation company so that they can take your specifications, so you can compare. That way you can really see a true bargain when it comes to finding the right truck broker for your shipping requirements.

Con-way Freight has broken ground on a new,state-of-the-art facility in San Antonio, TX. The fleet service center will include 105 doors and cover 41,500 sq. ft. It will also serve as a gateway for freight moving to and from Mexico.

Con-way Freight employs 104 at its current local facility, a 48-door service center. But the carrier anticipates adding  over 50 additional positions once the center opens.

?The City commends Con-way Freight for choosing to expand its operations in San Antonio with a $10 million investment on the East Side that will create 56 new jobs,? said San Antonio Mayor Juli?n Castro. ?Con-way Freight has been a great corporate citizen since 1989 and continues to be a key player in the city's targeted logistics and distribution industry.?

Construction on the center, which will cover 30 acres, is scheduled to be completed in the second half of 2011. It has been designed to grow to as many as 160 doors, allowing Con-way Freight the opportunity for future expansion if necessary.

More than 1 million pounds of freight per day is handled  by Con-way Freight in San Antonio ,with 45 tractors and 156 trailers in daily operation.

The new center will also house a five-bay maintenance facility and will have its own fueling facility and diesel fuel storage on site.

?This expanded facility is an important investment for our company, providing expanded capacity in a key location for our network, and giving us flexibility to grow with the San Antonio community,? said Neil Smith, area vp of operations.

?We thank the San Antonio City Council and Bexar County Commissioner?s Court for their ongoing support as we deepen our ties with this leading Texas community and participate n its overall economic growth,? he added.
