Truck skids off NY bridge, lands in Lake Champlain

WHITEHALL, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say a truck driver is hospitalized after his vehicle skidded off an upstate New York bridge and crashed into Lake Champlain's South Bay.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office tells local media that the truck was traveling on Route 22 during icy conditions around 2 a.m. Monday when it went off the bridge and landed on the frozen lake in Whitehall, on the Vermont border 65 miles northeast of Albany.

The driver was able to get out of the rig. He was taken to Glens Falls Hospital. Information on his condition isn't available.

Crews are trying to remove the truck from the lake.
