PeopleNet customers will be able to leverage the new J1939 data bus to access more information through an agreement with Noregon Systems, which will provide its multi-bus adapter for PeopleNet?s vehicle management application.

The multi-bus adapter connects to the J1708 and CAN vehicle data busses and helps provide a broader amount of information through the newer J1939 bus including engine and vehicle data such as top gear, fuel tank level, diesel particulate filter status, and engine load. It also provides flexibility, allowing managers to collect data through the onboard systems from either or all of the vehicle?s networks, Noregon said.

The new adapter is based on Noregon?s existing on-vehicle products but has been customized to meet PeopleNet?s requirements. It enables real-time integration with stability control systems from Bendix and Meritor Wabco, and eases integration between PeopleNet onboard computers and third-party systems, such as those supplying lane departure warning, tire pressure monitoring, and onboard cameras.
?As vehicle manufacturers continue the move towards providing only J1939 engine data via the ECM and reduce support for J1708, fleets need the flexibility to communicate with either data bus using a single hardware solution,? said Tom Dorazio, product manager for PeopleNet. ?With the Multi-bus Adapter, PeopleNet collects data from both data networks simultaneously.
